What: Metallica Autographs and Backstage Pass
This artifact, lifted from the Rockbrat collection seems to impress the younger Rockbrat relatives who are now heavily into Hetfield, Hammett and Co !! May of 1989 be the time and the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney be the place. The Rockbrat had managed to nab backstage passes to the Metallica show and displayed here is a signed cover of Hit Parader with a pass from that evening. I bought ‘Kill Em All’, ‘Ride The Lightning’ and ‘Puppets’ when they were released – all import copies mind you – which were not cheap !! From memory, the band were booked to play Coogee Bay Hotel in 1986 before the bus accident which killed Cliff Burton ended those plans. But back to that night in May of 1989 – I distinctly remember the guys from opening act Mortal Sin skating around the backstage area and having a blast. Lars Ulrich in particular was obliging and quite amicable. About an hour later, the force that was Metallica walked onstage and rocked liked the force they were. Hanging out with Metallica before a show…the memories don’t get any better my friends…
