Today Rockbrat remembers Sherbet guitarist, Harvey James, who passed away today after a six-month battle with lung cancer. James, 58, was diagnosed with lung cancer in July last year and died in Melbourne on Saturday night. The Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame guitarist was a member of several Australian bands, including Ariel and Mississippi, before he replaced Clive Shakespeare in Sherbet in late 75. He was part of the group when it recorded its biggest hit Howzat in 1976, which was an Australian number one and top five in Britain. Sherbet was arguably Australia’s biggest pop group, (certainly in the 70s) clocking up 19 Top 40 hits between 1971 and 1978. He played on those early Wendy Saddington LP’s in the early 70s, and also did stints with Swanee in 82 and the Party Boys in 83. Another musician from the halcyon days of Australian rock gone. Rest in peace.
