I stumbled across this site the other day and it is just exhaustive. For any girl band geek, partciularly metal band girl geeks (Mr, Rockbrat, Giglizard), this 15 CD series is indispensbile. The Female Fronted Heavy Metal Compilation series is an attempt at comprehensively documenting female fronted metal bands who recorded at least one heavy metal track before 1990. It is intended to  publish an annotated discography zine accompanied by hard copies of the CD-rs. The digital files are available now. Check this out now here
