The first time I heard Cooper’s 1989 single ‘Poison’ I knew it would be a hit. For the masses of asses, it appeared Alice Cooper was on some sort of a come back ! Ha ! Not in the world of Mr Rockbrat and the Cowboy. See we was weened on the Coop from an early age via a clued-on older sibling who was a Cooper fan in the 70’s – which included heading to the Sydney Showground for one of his 1977 Aussie shows. Thinking back, his ‘Raise Your Fist and Yell’ opus from 1986 got heavy rotation on the Rockbrat 1974 issue Sanyo stereo ! What an underrated album that is. I think his touring band from that era (with Kane Roberts and Kip Simon…err Winger) had far more grunt than the Pete Freezin’, Al Pitrelli line-up from the Trash era, but it matters not, cos since the mid-70’s – most of his band members are dudes who are faceless, long-haired, clones – that ain’t a pinch on the classic Cooper band anyway (Bruce, Buxton, Dunaway, Smith). So come 1989 and a whole new bunch of 15 year old kids are turned onto the cool superghoul from Detroit and he’s tasting chart success once again. These two street posters were sliced from a power pole in a suburban Sydney street back in 1990. It was a great tour – with The Bombers as the opening act . Pretty cool huh !
