Sydney’s Fallon Cush – alt-country and a whole lot more

p277They have been around for a few years now – but you still may not have heard of them. We suggest you take a listen – as they are good!

The enigmatically named Fallon Cush is the vehicle for Sydney-based songwriter Steve Smith who has a knack of drawing together exceptional musicians from Sydney’s alt-country and indie rock scenes to add depth and colour to his songs.

Reviews regularly see Fallon Cush more than favourably compared with artists such as The Jayhawks, Ryan Adams, The Byrds and Big Star – which of course pleases them no end. The band unveiled their most fully realised album to date in 2016, a vinyl, CD and digital release entitled Bee In Your Bonnet. Receiving worldwide critical acclaim the album was described as “the perfect combination of hook-laden songcraft and timeless musicality” by Post To Wire in Australia and “an essential acquisition” by Blurt in the U.S.

Fallon Cush came rumbling back in June this year with the single, Long Shot taken off their fourth album, Morning a 9 track poptastic collision of rock, alt. country, psychedelic rock and pop which is due for release in September on their own label, Lightly Toasted Records.

It again features some of the best musicians from Sydney’s alt. country and indie rock scenes and was recorded by Chris Vallejo at Linear Recording and Michael Carpenter at Love Hz Studios in Sydney. Michael Carpenter mixed the record at Love Hz and it was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, NYC.

Fallon Cush play this Sunday the 12th of August at Beaches, Thirroul, NSW.
