The Factory Theatre in Sydney looks like the place to be on Saturday 22nd June – with the announcement that Wollongong outfit The Dark Clouds, have been added to the bill for Radio Birdman’s gig.
Radio Birdman recently announced two special shows – hitting Newcastle’s Cambridge Hotel on Friday 21st June, before storming Marrickville’s Factory Theatre stage the following evening.
Punters are encouraged to get along to the Sydney gig early – as The Dark Clouds, followed by Mick Medew & The Mesmerisers (ex-Screaming Tribesmen) – are set to fire up proceedings with their foot-to-the-floor rock n roll tunage.
Since their formation, The Dark Clouds have amassed a strong gathering of original material, including the highly acclaimed debut album from 2015 titled ‘After The Sun‘.
To celebrate 40 years since the release of ‘Mad Max’, The Dark Clouds recently released a CD single containing two tracks: ‘MFP’ & ‘Educated Heathen’. Both tunes instantly demand your attention, yet it is the song ‘MFP’, with its post-apocalyptic punk rock homage to ‘Mad Max’ Rockatansky which has generated a lot of buzz for the band online.
Not since The Onyas cut the Mad Max inspired tune ‘Night Rider’ back in 1996, have we heard something so damn cool – and the attention to detail in the accompanying video is spectacular – surely, this is Logie winning stuff. The film clip was produced by Tumbleweed’s Richie Lewis – and also features a cameo by actor Vincent Gil – who portrayed the character ‘Night Rider’ in the iconic 1979 film. Gil had previously starred as ‘Doctor Death’ in 1974’s cult biker film ‘Stone’ .
Besides the Birdman support, The Dark Clouds play Illawarra Music Foundry on Sunday 25 August, with Rose Carleo Band and Brisbane’s Black Whiskey.
